What is the best option for tooth replacement?
If you have a missing tooth, it's crucial that it be replaced sooner rather than later, and we can go over your options for tooth replacement. The best option for one person might not be the best option for another person.
At our Springfield, OR dental clinic, we can talk to you about replacing your missing teeth with the following restorations:
- A dental bridge. If you are missing one or two teeth in a row, a dental bridge is a good replacement option. A bridge is attached to the teeth adjacent to the space, usually after they have been fitted with dental crowns. You will be able to chew properly again, and a bridge will also protect your remaining teeth from shifting.
- Dentures. People who are missing a full upper or lower arch, or both, might opt for dentures. Dentures have been around for a long time, but today’s dentures are more natural-looking and more comfortable than ever before. Because they fit better, denture wearers today can chew and speak properly after an adjustment period.
- Dental implants. Dental implants provide the tooth replacement option that is closest to the natural teeth. An implant goes into the jawbone to take the place of a missing tooth root. After it is placed surgically, there is a waiting period until the implant integrates into the bone. This usually takes about three to six months, and your dentist can place a dental crown on top of the implant afterward. Dental implants look and function most like a natural tooth, and they also prevent your jawbone from shrinking.
