Dental Implants

Missing teeth impact not only your appearance, but they can make speaking properly a challenge. You might also find it difficult to chew many of your favorite foods. Dental implants provide a tooth replacement option that is closest to the natural tooth.

At our Springfield and Eugene area dental office, we work closely with an oral surgeon and coordinate the implant procedure from start to finish. Don’t let missing teeth compromise your oral health or your overall health; call us today to make an appointment to get started.

The Dental Implant Process

From start to finish, the dental implant process takes place over the course of several months—and our patients report that it is well worth it. We will start with a full evaluation of your current oral health and determine whether or not you have enough bone to support dental implants. If the jawbone is thin, we can talk about procedures such as bone grafting to build up the bone before placement of the implants.

The oral surgeon will surgically place the dental implants in an outpatient procedure that most recipients report goes quite quickly and offers a fast recovery. In some cases, we can immediately restore or temporize esthetically an implant! There is a waiting period of anywhere from four to six months while the implants integrate into the jawbone, depending on how quickly your body heals.

The final phase of treatment is the attachment of the prosthetic tooth. Dr. Stambaugh will handle this procedure, which signifies the end of the process. Afterward, you will have one or more teeth that look and function very much like your natural teeth.

Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implant recipients enjoy a variety of benefits when they opt for dental implants:

  • Bone health protection. When a tooth is missing, the body no longer sends nutrients to that area of the body, so the bone begins to shrink over time. When a dental implant is in place, this tricks the body into sensing that a tooth root is still there, so the bone continues to be stimulated. Unlike the shrunken-in look many denture-wearers can develop over time, dental implants protect against this bone loss.
  • Stability. Denture-wearers will likely tell you that their biggest complaint is the tendency of their dentures to slip and move while they are eating and speaking. This problem doesn’t exist with dental implants since they become permanent parts of the jawbone.
  • No food restrictions. You can eat all of your favorite crunchy and foods with dental implants—just as you could with your natural teeth.
  • Easy care. Unlike dentures, which wearers need to remove for cleaning, you can treat your dental implants just like you did your natural teeth. Brush, floss, and stay current with exams and cleanings at the dentist, and your implants can last as long as a lifetime.
